![]() The fact that Paradox became such a successful company, is prove that the system works very well. A year later you get it for way less, and you still get the free update. And if you think its to expensive, then just don't buy it. But I see it more like a motivation to play again and rediscover the game. Yes the DLC are often a bit overpriced for what they contain. I love the Paradox Model, because its just awesome. (I think I bought EU4 with all DLC for just 80 Euro a few years ago).Īnd while 80-100 Euro sounds like much money, especially compared to most games that get released for 60 (with rising prices), you shouldn't forget that you get decades of content and updates. If you exclude the newest DLC's, then you can buy most Paradox games with ALL Dlc for less than 100. I mean, its not like you can also buy them, when they are reduced in price. It’s pure madness, the most dedicated fans don’t do that. I’ll never understand why some people feel compelled to buy every dlc at the same time. But I still naively wish that more games followed Stellaris' example. I know that AAA games are mostly F2P + MTX because it's what makes the most money, because shareholders need that 5th helicopter RIGHT NOW. But are you getting meaningful content worth your bucks ? How much money do you spend for purely cosmetic stuff ? It can reach 200€ very quickly in some games. Now compare that to others live service games. Finally the policy of multiplayer host sharing all their DLCs to other players is very user friendly.Ħ years later, Stellaris is still getting new content (the last update wasn't even linked to a DLC), it has a big community is very active (mods, YouTube, Reddit) and the company has better communication than most studios: every week there's a Dev Diary where they explain what they're working on (art, mechanics, coding). Each DLC has meaningful content (Paradox even added new content to old DLCs for free), and you just buy what you want. Yeah, there's 200€ of DLC, but don't forget that each DLC comes with a free update that reworks and adds content, to the point that the base game today feels like a sequel when compared to the release version.Īnd when it comes to DLCs, the base game is quite full and I think that only Utopia and Synthetic Dawn are "mandatory" (the devs themselves said that they wish they put hive minds and machine empires in the base game). I think that Stellaris is the example of a successful live-service game without being F2P + micro-transactions. Stellaris is the only Paradox game I play, so I will only speak for this one. I heard a couple times that Paradox games are expensive because they have so many DLCs it goes in 3 digit prices. /r/Xenonion (Stellaris' Finest News Source). ![]()
